It is always so much fun hatching eggs, it never gets old! Unfortunately, after complaints from our closest neighbors we were forced to re-home our two beautiful roosters. I’ve saved the last weeks worth of their eggs to start incubating this week. One moment of enjoyment for a rooster can fertilize a hens eggs for up to 21 days, so fingers crossed these ones are still fertile! Our duck breeding program is still intact and they are not disappointing!
I currently have 28 eggs in the duck incubator, and so far 7 have hatched a day early!! We have 2 Silver Appleyards and 5 Cayuga so far, with many more pipping (breaking their shells).
The five chicken eggs are taking their time, determined to make us wait, they should begin to hatch tomorrow.
On another note, we were very fortunate to sell out of both chicken ($5 per dozen) and duck ($6 per dozen) eggs yesterday! The girls are working hard to resupply today, so watch for the yellow sign tomorrow!! Also, eggs will now be stored in the refrigerator, the red cooler is retiring 🙂
